The new motorway from Colombo to Matara opens in September 2011, which will make the journey from the airport to the house around 1½ hours.
There is a new Air Taxi service by Sea Plane which lands on Koggala Lake; a 5 minute drive from Koggala takes you to breakfast on the verandah. This journey takes 40 minutes and is well worth doing for the experience! Deccan Aviation also fly to Koggala.
Please let us know your flight times and we can arrange either a car or the air taxi for you.
We can arrange for a tuk-tuk to be on call for you during your stay - if you would like us to sort this out, please let us know when booking.
The local currency is the Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR). For further info have a look at World Travel Guide.
Money can be changed in any of the banks at the airport (same rate in all). It's advisable to travel with English notes, US Dollars or Euros. Scottish notes are about as useful as Monopoly money, so best avoided!
The house is fully staffed at all times with a housekeeper/cook, houseboy and full time security man. Breakfast is included and other meals can be cooked for you to suit your plans.
Shop in the local markets, choose fish from the fish stalls along the Galle Road - go early to get the best catch of the day. Cook on the barbeque or enjoy a Sri Lankan Curry on the verandah. Alternatively, send the house-boy with your list of shopping and relax by the pool….
Fresh drinking water is available, as is hot water for showering.
Dip in and enjoy the infinity pool - being 8 feet deep means it stays at that perfectly refreshing temperature. There's even a nifty little ledge where you can soak up the rays by day and relax with your cocktail at sunset. Comes complete with the rock (after which the house was named), a view across Koggola Lake, monkeys jumping around in the tress and, some days, the local fishermen catching their catch!
There is a mobile phone at the house which guests may use.
There is no internet connection available at the house but you can buy a 'Dongle' - for mobile broadband - at the Dialogue counter at the airport. This is very cheap pay as you go system and you can top up your account locally.
There's plenty to keep you busy nearby - from historical culture to the most heavenly of beaches… check out the Local page for more details.
